Estrogen Replacement Therapy

Estrogen is the main hormone for sexual and reproductive development in women. Along with progesterone, it is one of the most important hormones in the female body.  These hormones impact a woman’s reproductive system, the skeletal structure, and even the liver, heart and other vital organs.  As women move closer to menopause, estrogen levels decrease resulting in a wide range of symptoms such as: hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, vaginal dryness, bladder problems, difficulty concentrating and anxiety.

Current conventional medical therapy is to prescribe the lowest dose of estrogen for the shortest duration possible to treat these bothersome symptoms.  However, this therapy was based on flawed studies which used pharmaceutical hormones such as medroxyprogesterone acetate, and conjugated equine estrogens (CEEs) which are not bio-identical.   The different structure of these synthetic hormones is what caused an increase in blood clots and cancers found in these previous studies.  Estrodiol, the estrogen found naturally in the human body does not cause these problems.  In fact, estrogen replacement therapy improves the quality of life for most post-menopausal women by making them feel more youthful and energized.
